This listing shows the entire property which is mostly booked from Memorial Day weekend through the end of September.
These are the individual openings we have in season.
2nd floor: Sleeps 6
1st floor: Sleeps 8
Boathouse: sleeps 4
Our bay front rental on LBI NJ is called Bayberry Cove. The name comes from the native bayberry bushes that surrounded the property in the 1950's and 60's. Gone for decades the bayberry's are beginning to come back after Hurricane Sandy.
We rent weekly in the summer and remain flexible in the spring and fall. There are three individual units. The first floor sleeps 8 in 3 bedrooms and a den. The second floor, sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms. Finally, the boathouse sleeps 4 with one bedroom and a futon. All 3 units are air conditioned and have heat for the spring and fall.
This listing is for the whole property as one rental and the calendar indicates what weeks are available. If you are interested in renting one unit in particular, we will accommodate you when possible. Though we are new to VRLBI we have been hosting guests since purchasing this property in 1966. Most of our repeat guests have been with us for decades so I apologize in advance for the scarcity of available weeks.
First off is the Boathouse. If downsizing is in your future spending a vacation in the boathouse is the perfect test drive. The Boathouse is above a common laundry with storage for bikes and my fathers library. At the top of the stairs is a small sitting area with a bistro table. It is the perfect place to read a book and watch the boats go by. The boathouse sits at the end of the dock. Here we have a large picnic table for outdoor dining. The sunsets from this table are simply amazing.
In 360 square feet you will find what may be the best kept secret on LBI. There is just one bedroom with a queen size bed that is about 15 feet from the water. You would need to sleep on a boat to get any closer. In the bathroom you will find the original claw foot tub. Shower is outside and again just steps from the bay. There is usable kitchen but no space for a dishwasher. A table for 4 and a futon fill up what little space is left. Yes its small but it is comfortable and works well.
Next up is the 2nd floor which sleeps 6 in 3 queen bedrooms. Head up the steps to a large deck overlooks the bay. The table seats 6 while deck chairs have a relaxing view of the bay.
Enter off the deck into the living room with a large picture window overlooking the bay. A table for 6 is in front of the south facing window. A sofa, 2 chairs and a TV along the north and west wall. There is a pass through behind the couch to the kitchen. It is a full kitchen including a mini dishwasher.
The master is just off the kitchen with a queen bed and a nice chair to relax in. Two smaller bedrooms have queen beds as well and all bedrooms have ceiling fans. The full bath is behind the kitchen. There is an outside shower under the stairs.
The 2nd floor is small at 660 square feet but packs everything you need into this space. The deck adds another 190 feet of outdoor space.
Last is the 1st floor our biggest unit at 980 square feet. A large deck is steps from the bay. A large table seats eight while deck chairs and chaise lounges are have a relaxing view of the bay.
Enter off the deck into a great room with a large picture window overlooking the bay. A large table for 8 is in front of the south facing window. A sofa, love seat and TV along the north and east wall. Your kitchen runs along the west wall and has plenty of counter space and an island.
A long hallway has a full and and additional half bath on the left followed by a den with a futon. On the right is a bedroom with 2 singles then a bedroom with a queen bed. The hallway ends at a back bedroom with 2 twin beds and a sitting area with a 2nd tv.
The houses are approaching 100 years old and have traditional cedar shake siding. Though they have been updated over the years they retain that nostalgic charm that doesn't exist in a newer home. If you want your family to experience a simpler time or recreate a memory from your childhood this is the place. We have cable and wifi but no home theater or game consoles. There is a dock with boat slips, kayaks and paddle boards. The docks are great for fishing, crabbing, swimming and sunsets. The township has a guarded "bay" beach 2 blocks north and of course the ocean is a short walk as well. Many of our repeat guests set up beach chairs on the dock avoiding the crowds at the beach all together.
Lets be honest... The view is what we're here for so lets talk about it. Its 4 miles from the dock to the mainland. Most of the western shoreline remains a salt marsh with Tuckerton to the west and Beach Haven West to the north. Looking further south its 17 miles to Atlantic City and when its clear you can almost read the signs on the casinos. In between are low sedge islands dotting one of the largest protected bays in New Jersey. The bay creates something we call the Beach Haven bubble. Because the bay water is cooler than the land storms tend to go north or south where the bay is narrow and the land is hot. Sitting on the dock in the sun while a storm passes to the south has to be seen to be believed. Any weather that does impact us tends to move west to east so you see it coming instead of watching it go on the ocean.
Our Grandparents loved the bay as the view was constantly changing. Since we face southwest the sun passes from left to right and the sunsets are simply amazing. The light reflecting on the water, boats passing by and the gulls, ducks and ospreys bring out the "birder" in all of us.
The dock sits in a cove and swimming is safe as the main channel for boat traffic is 300 yards off the end of the dock. The channel is part of the inter-coastal waterway which boats use to get from FL to New England so you never know what will pass by.
Beach Haven Terrace is a great neighborhood with restaurants, shops and watering holes. Walk to Wawa for your coffee and to Marvels for your donuts. A short walk holds 9 places to eat, 2 bars, an ice cream shop and a package store. The bayside from Beach haven Gardens to the Terrace is isolated so there is no through traffic like the ocean side. There are 3 traffic lights to cross the boulevard with the closest 1 block north at Wawa.
Thank you for your interest in Bayberry Cove. We welcome your questions and look forward to you staying with us.
