Notes on the house

The final picture shows the availability of the listing more clearly than VRLBI's calendar feature. And this picture is more frequently updated. Only the 2nd floor is available for this house, the 1st floor is a quiet seasonal tenant. The rents in the calendar are for the second floor.

Regarding this house (listing 512), the decks are great! Plenty of furniture: tables, chairs, and lounges. And the private walk makes it super easy to come back from the beach for a drink, snack or so everyone can have lunch. We also have lighting to stay out at night.

We pride ourselves in keeping our house in great working order and making it as comfortable for our guests as we can. Our contact information is in the house. Please feel free to reach out if you need anything during you stay. If you have any feedback or suggestions we are happy to hear. Through the years we implemented many suggestions such as adding outside lighting on the deck on the first floor, adding a ceiling fan, or things as simple as labeling the light switches for the living area.



The Bergen Ave. Beach

There are so few people in the area due to how thin the island is here; Bergen Ave. only has about 10 houses from bay to beach making for much less crowded beach days. Though there are still life guards nearby. They tend to set up their guarding stands within a few hundred feet of where the private walk from the house feeds into the beach. We also supply 8 seasonal beach badges.


LBI Shuttle Service

The great benefit of our home's location is that it allows you significant privacy, but its just a short ride to most of the island’s main attractions. It runs along the Boulevard for the whole island. Just flag it down at end of our street and hop on. It will take you wherever you want to go for a $2 fee! When you're ready to come home you can just catch the shuttle back.

They run from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The shuttle schedule changes year to year but is typically something like

- 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM Monday thru Thursday
- 8:00 AM to 11:30 PM Thursday thru Saturday


Rules and Regulations … These don’t mix well with vacation so we try to keep this simple.

- I will then send a rental agreement via docusign
- The payment schedule we run on is 50% of the rent a few weeks after signing the rental agreement and the other 50% of the rent along with a security deposit and beach badge deposit about 45 days before your check-in the actual date will be in the lease.




Check-Out Process

We provide house keeping services at the end of your stay, but we ask that you leave our home in good order by doing the following:
- Beds made
- Trash emptied
- Dishes in dishwasher and ran
- Furniture and all other items in the location you found them in

A Winner For Sure--July 23-31, 2021

This was our first time at Paul's property; we loved it. Great location--we love Harvey Cedar's and it's quiet vibe. The house was well equipped both inside and out; the owner's were easy to work with and very responsive. We shared the home with a young family who were great house mates.
Can't say enough nice things about the property and experience--an A+!

Not As Great As Previous Reviews

It is amazing to me that the reviews here are glowing because either the reviewers were paid off or the property really went downhill since last summer.

I rented the second floor with 3 friends. The pictures were very nice. Upon arrival, we noted the smell in the unit. It wasn't just an ocean air musty smell, it was like the air filter in the HVAC system was never changed combined with a sewage smell with an attempt to cover the smell with mothballs. In addition to the smell, the microfiber sofa smelled and was stained, most of the slider screen doors were ripped, the grill was never cleaned, and the items noted in the description were not there. We immediately called to report this. I also spoke with the renters downstairs - they were just as disappointed.

The owner's son showed up at about 9PM that night - nice kid, trying to help. He attempted to clean the grill in the dark and then proceeded to tell us to just turn the burners on and let the heat clean it. It wasn't just dirty inside, there were hairs on the side tables. It was gross. He did come back another time to replace the screen doors.

The best part of this rental was the deck, the views and being beachfront. Otherwise, this rental was sub-par and not worth the almost $5k that we paid for the week. It is probably one of the least expensive beachfront rentals but you get what you pay for. Additionally, we asked for some money back for the disrepair but were turned down and told that this is what happens with a beachfront rental.

Think twice before renting this unit....

Hi Stacy,

You didn't actually rent through us on VRLBI... You rented through a realtor who only relays your complaints to us. To address some of your issues in your review. When I was there you only directly complained about the inside of the grill being dirty and the screens being ripped. The screens were fixed the next day after you informed me of there being issues with them.

When I came to clean the grill you only complained about the inside being dirty, so when I came I only brought materials to clean the inside of the grill. Further before leaving that night I literally asked multiple times if you had more issues and you told me no you were all good. When I returned the next day with the rush order of replacement screen doors I also never heard about the HVAC filters or any of the other issues after asking you if you had anything else you wanted me to handle. I'm not sure what you expected me to do since you just told me to leave. Also regarding the HVAC filters, I assure you are replaced once a year at the beginning of the season. They are also located in the main air shaft which you can see in the unit so I could have shown you they were not "filthy" as you claim.

Regarding your request to return a portion of the rent, I did not ever get any details on this. I'm not sure if you directly contacted your realtor about it but the message never got to me. As you rented through a realtor we never had any direct contact whatsoever besides the in person meeting when I came to clean your grill. This is despite the fact that there is info in the house that says please directly reach out to me if you have any issues and I will handle them. I did not hear from you once; I only got messages from the realtor you used to rent. Overall I'm sorry to hear the week at our house did not live up to your expectations please feel free to reach out to me directly if you have any other questions or concerns.

Amazing Location

We had a beautiful week at this amazing beachfront location! Being able to walk off the deck onto the dunes to the beach made this such a memorable vacation location. So much great seating on the deck gave us so many options for visiting and eating. Donna was fabulous to work with, too!!

As I have said before their home is the best kept secret in Harvey Cedars. The home is very comfortable, well equipped, with private access to the beach right off their deck. When you are on the beach it’s like being on a private beach with lifeguards. It’s quite and not crowded. You have plenty of parking and deck space to enjoy a lot of peace and quite. I must speak about Donna and Paul they are the most accommodating, helpful and friendly people that you will ever meet. They want you to enjoy your stay at their home. Great spot on the beach

If you're looking for a beach vacation this is the spot. Best part about the house is the beach access. It's really like a private beach. A close second is the porch looking at the ocean. House is clean and well equipped and owners are a pleasure. Thanks again Donna and Paul!!!

Another perfect vacation

We had a great vacation despite not so great weather in the last week of August. All we can say is that we will be going back, it is just a wonderful beachy relaxing and awesome house. It's great for kids. My grandkids are asking if we can go back and maybe rent the 2nd-floor next summer. Yep! We want to see the ocean:). Looking forward!
